Invitational Summer Institute

The Invitational Summer Institute (ISI) is a free, professional development program for teachers of grades kindergarten through college.

We promote effective teaching of writing and reading, methods of supporting your students, and engagement of your classroom through diverse writing forms.

Successful completion of ISI qualifies a teacher to become an SJAWP consultant, and participants can earn graduate college credits if you need units.

Professional Learning Community

We offer Professional Learning Communities for teachers to earn graduate college credit, grow as a writing teacher, and learn practical and progressive practices to bring back to your classroom!

Join SJAWP in welcoming Sarah Zerwin and Aeriale Johnson as 2022-2023's PLC instructors!

Summer Open Programs

Our Summer Open Programs are four-day workshops and events in professional development. These are led by our teacher consultants, who are experts in writing instruction. Learn, reflect and earn graduate college credit!

Please check back in the future or subscribe to our mailing list for 2022 dates.

Lab School

The San Jose Area Writing Project is partnering with teacher and poet Raven Sisco to offer an online writing class for both student writers and writing teachers called Writing for Self Care and Community Building. From July 10th through the 14th, participants will receive daily prompts as well as opportunities for teacher participants to reflect on how these prompts might apply in a classroom setting.
