SJAWP Inquiry Group

By Pam Cheng

It was a Saturday morning. I had another meeting. And I was looking forward to it. Last year teachers across grade levels from all over the bay area chose to meet in a small intimate group over coffee and pastries in the modern, sunlit Martin Luther King Junior Library. We discussed and explored topics of our choice. We shared student work, frustrations and road blocks, and brainstormed strategies to try out and reflect on. Two of our participants published essays from the experience. We debated. We talked. We let ourselves be inspired by each other. We experienced that ever-increasingly endangered feeling of professional collegiality and remembered something about why we came into teaching in the first place.

Would you be interested in joining us in an Inquiry Group this year? We’ll be meeting 4 times, once every two weeks for a couple of hours. You can earn SJSU credit if you choose. Email me and tell me to count you in; let me know what topics you might be interested in discussing. I look forward to sharing food and conversation with you soon!
